Last week our friends over at Ace Jewelers introduced their NOMOS Orion De Stijl, a 100-piece limited edition wristwatch celebrating the centenary of the prolific Dutch art movement.
The NOMOS Orion De Stijl is based on the Orion 38 with see-through case back. It features a dial inspired by works of De Stijl, whose members included the likes of Piet Mondriaan, Gerrit Rietveld and Theo van Doesburg.
Done in deep black, each of the hour markers is unique – as if they were taken straight from one of Mondriaan’s famous paintings or from the parts of a disassembled Red & Blue chair. The result is a a-symmetrical composition that adds a bit of flair and eccentricity to the otherwise very restraint Orion.
Like the regular Orion 38, the Orion De Stijl is powered by NOMOS’ hand-wound Alpha movement. The case measures 38mm (you probably guessed that) at a height of 8.86mm. Lug-to-lug the case measures approximately 47.5mm. It is fitted with a see-through case back.
Ace is taking pre-orders in their eBoutique. The first 25 pieces are scheduled to be delivered during a launch party at Mondriaan’s birth place on September 14th. We’ll be posting a hands-on review soon!
